What is Phase One?
Invisalign can transform your child’s smile with Phase One treatment. It works by developing young jaws to make room for existing teeth and incoming permanent teeth. Children between the ages of six and ten are perfect candidates for starting their orthodontic treatment with Invisalign.
Advantages for your child include the following:
- Prevent pre-existing bite issues from worsening
- Fix existing teeth-straightening conditions
- Improve the appearance of a child’s growing smile
- Help with bad oral habits (thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, etc.)
- Makes Phase Two treatments much shorter and easier
How it Works
Having straighter teeth does not have to be awkward and uncomfortable. The Invisalign treatment works in just three simple steps.
Get Your First Fitting
Your dentist will ensure your trays fit correctly so you can start transforming your smile. During this session is when you should ask all important questions and get everything you need to know.
Regularly Check-In with Your Dentist
Regular checkups are important for your dentist to check your progress and answer any other questions so you can progress in your treatment. Specifically, because your teeth gradually shift while wearing your aligners, you’ll need to get new ones periodically. Checkups are typically scheduled every six to eight weeks.
Keep Your New, Straighter Smile
Once your treatment is complete and you have a straighter smile, we recommend retainers to keep your teeth straight. Over time, your teeth can shift back, and retainers are good for preventing that from happening.
Caring for Your Invisalign Trays
If you want your Invisalign aligners to last for a long time, you have to take good care of them. Not doing so can risk damage, discoloration, and less effective treatment. Here is what you can do to ensure you get the most out of your aligners.
Clean Them Regularly
Clean trays are effective trays! Make a habit of cleaning your aligners regularly. This includes rinsing them after removing them, soaking them in Invisalign cleaning crystals every day, and using non-abrasive materials to wash and scrub them. Furthermore, this will prevent bacteria that could damage your teeth!
Do Not Eat with Them In
Another way to keep your aligners clean is to avoid eating and drinking when you have them in. This is why they’re removable! You run the risk of accidentally damaging or staining them. However, drinking water is fine when you have them in.
Keep Them in Their Case When Not Wearing Them
Not only can this prevent you from accidentally misplacing or losing your aligners, but it can also prevent them from getting damaged. You also don’t want to risk putting them down in any unsanitary areas–so in the case, they go!
Brush and Floss Your Teeth When You Remove Them
You’ll want to remove any food debris from your teeth and gums before putting your aligners back on. Otherwise, they’ll be stuck there for a long time and could possibly lead to oral health problems.
